Officer-Involved Shooting Outside Mooresville Hospital

MOORESVILLE, N.C. – An armed individual, Robert William Berry, 56, was fatally shot by Mooresville police outside Lake Norman Regional Medical Center early Wednesday morning.

The incident began at 3:44 a.m. when officers responded to reports of a man with intentions of self-harm.

Berry, after informing hospital staff of his plans, was observed securing a firearm. When confronted by officers in the parking lot, Berry initially complied with orders to disarm but subsequently re-armed himself, posing a threat.

An officer fired five shots, resulting in Berry’s death during subsequent medical attention.

In line with standard procedure, the involved officer has been placed on administrative leave. The NC State Bureau of Investigation is handling the inquiry into this officer-involved shooting.
