Officer-Involved Shooting Under Investigation in Kensington

PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Police Department is currently investigating an officer-involved shooting that took place in Kensington’s 100 block of East Willard Street.

The incident unfolded just after 12:30 p.m., centered around a vehicle under scrutiny.

The situation arose when police attempted to stop an erratic driver who, in an attempt to escape, drove the wrong way. Exiting his car, the driver allegedly confronted officers with a knife.

One officer fired his weapon multiple times in response, critically wounding the suspect. Subsequently, the wounded suspect was transported to a local hospital where he was declared dead.

Following the event, the involved officer has been placed on administrative leave.
