Ohio Garbage Truck Explosion Caused by Improperly Discarded Oxygen Tank

WHITEHALL, Ohio — Local Waste employees narrowly avoided a dangerous situation Wednesday when an oxygen tank was illegally placed in a garbage can on the 4000 block of Elbern Avenue, city officials said.

Authorities are urging residents to come forward with any information about the incident and to contact the Whitehall Police Department at 614-237-6333. Improper disposal of hazardous materials can pose serious risks to sanitation workers and the community.

“Know the dangers! Hazardous & explosive materials can be found in everyday items, so be aware of proper handling and storage,” the City of Whitehall stated in a public notice.

Officials emphasized the importance of following proper disposal guidelines for potentially dangerous items, including pressurized tanks, batteries, and chemicals, to prevent accidents.
