Cincinnati, OH – One lucky Ohio player is waking up a millionaire after matching five numbers in the December 24 Powerball drawing, scoring a $1 million prize from a ticket sold at a Kroger on Beechmont Avenue in Cincinnati.
The ticket matched the five white balls drawn — 4, 25, 31, 52, 59 — but missed the red Powerball number, 19. The winning ticket was sold at Kroger Co. #915, located at 7580 Beechmont Avenue. After state and federal taxes totaling 27.125%, the prize amounts to $728,750.
The jackpot for this drawing was a staggering $1.817 billion, making it the second-largest lottery prize in U.S. history. A single jackpot-winning ticket was sold in Arkansas.
Eight other tickets nationwide matched all five white balls and earned $1 million each. These were sold in Ohio, California, Indiana, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and two in New York.
Players have one year from the date of the drawing to claim their prize. The Ohio Lottery continues to generate funding for education in the state, contributing over $34 billion to public schools since 1974.
