Accokeek woman turns grocery stop into nearly $100K FAST PLAY win

ACCOKEEK, Md. — Missing church after oversleeping left an Accokeek woman feeling disappointed, but an unexpected stop for groceries later that day ended with a Maryland Lottery FAST PLAY ticket worth $99,751.

According to the Maryland Lottery, the Prince George’s County resident purchased two FAST PLAY tickets and several scratch-offs while shopping at BJ’s Wholesale Club, 1000 St. Nicholas Drive in Waldorf, on July 19.

One of those tickets, a FAST PLAY Cash Combination game, instantly awarded a progressive jackpot of $99,751.

“Is this real?” the winner recalled thinking after seeing the prize printed on the ticket.

She later scanned the ticket and received a “See Lottery” message, confirming the prize required validation by Lottery officials.

After finishing her shopping, she called her boyfriend to share the news.

The winner said he didn’t believe her until she showed him the winning ticket.

The woman, who has worked for the federal government for 36 years, claimed her prize Aug. 4 at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

She told Lottery officials she plans to use the money to pay bills, make vehicle repairs, build her savings, help family members and take a vacation.

BJ’s Wholesale Club will receive a $997 bonus for selling the progressive jackpot-winning ticket.
