Lowellville man thinks he won $10K then discovers $100K scratch off shock
LOWELLVILLE, OH – A Mahoning County man who believed he had just won $10,000 on a scratch-off ticket got a far bigger surprise when a final scan revealed he was actually holding a $100,000 winner.
The Lowellville resident purchased several $5 scratch-offs at McCartney Drive Thru, located at 6659 McCartney Road, and returned home to play them later that night.
While playing a Bingo Times 25 Scratch-Off, he uncovered the four corners and knew the ticket was a winner. As he continued scratching, he saw an “X” symbol and assumed the prize was $10,000.
When he scanned the ticket, the display showed a $100,000 prize. He then realized he had not scratched the Bonus Box multiplier, which increased the total payout.
After 26.75% in federal and state taxes, he will receive $73,250.
The winner said he plans to complete home improvements, take a vacation and save the remaining funds.
As of Tuesday, Feb. 24, two $100,000 top prizes remain in the Bingo Times 25 game. The overall odds of winning are 1 in 3.52.
Since 1974, the Ohio Lottery has contributed more than $34 billion to education.
