One dead in single vehicle crash in Allegany County

Allegany County, MD- A single vehicle crash occurred on Friday, around 4:18 p.m. in the vicinity of Barton Hill on Route 36.

Upon arrival at the scene, emergency units discovered that a passenger vehicle had veered off the roadway, collided with a guardrail, and subsequently flipped over multiple times.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as 40-year-old Jacob Paul Prock from Westernport, did not survive the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

For approximately three hours, Route 36 at Barton Hill remained closed to facilitate the investigation by the Cumberland City Police Crash Team.

Several agencies responded to the scene to provide assistance, including the Lonaconing Fire Department Chief and Engine 201, George’s Creek Ambulance 306, Tri-Towns EMS Ambulance 352, Barton Fire Department Engine 192, Allegany County Department of Emergency Services, Allegany County Sheriff’s Office, Cumberland City Police, and the Maryland State Highway Administration.

Police continue to investigate this incident, and they are urging any individuals who witnessed the collision and have not yet come forward to contact either the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office or the Cumberland City Police Crash Teams at 301-777-5959 or 301-777-1600.
