One Person Dead in Single Vehicle Crash in Gaithersburg

GAITHERSBURG, MD – A tragic car accident has claimed the life of a local woman in Gaithersburg, prompting an ongoing investigation by the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit.

The incident occurred on Sunday, August 4, at around 9:53 p.m.

Responding to a report of a crash on Shady Grove Road, just north of Briardale Road, officers from the 1st and 6th Districts along with Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel discovered a severe single-vehicle accident.

Saraha Aminata Tumoe, 20, of Gaithersburg, was identified as the sole occupant and victim of the crash.

According to preliminary findings, Tumoe was driving a gray 1999 Acura TL northbound when she lost control, veered off the road, struck a curb, and rolled the vehicle onto its side before colliding with a tree in the center median.

Tumoe was pronounced dead at the scene.

The exact cause of why she lost control is still under investigation.
