Overnight vehicle fire contained before spreading to home in Island Heights

ISLAND HEIGHTS, N.J. – Firefighters quickly extinguished a vehicle fire early Tuesday morning on Lake Avenue, preventing flames from spreading to a nearby construction trailer and occupied home, officials said.

According to the Island Heights Volunteer Fire Company, crews were dispatched around 2:20 a.m. for a report of a vehicle fire attached to a trailer with an occupied residence nearby. Chief 5300 arrived on scene and directed Engine 5311 to deploy a hand line to knock down the fire and protect the home. Engine 5301 connected to a nearby hydrant to maintain the water supply.

Firefighters worked efficiently to contain the blaze, limiting damage to the vehicle. The trailer and residence were not affected.

Island Heights Police, the Island Heights Volunteer First Aid Squad, and the Department of Public Works also responded. DPW crews salted the roadway afterward due to icy conditions caused by water used during firefighting operations.
