Strong winds, cold temperatures to sweep New Jersey through the weekend

MOUNT HOLLY, N.J. – The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for much of central and southern New Jersey through early Saturday as strong gusts and a sharp drop in temperatures move across the state.

Forecasters said southwest winds of 20 to 30 mph, with gusts reaching 45 mph, will shift to the northwest this afternoon as a strong cold front pushes through. After a brief lull late this morning, gusts could climb to 50 mph behind the front, potentially downing tree limbs and causing scattered power outages. The advisory remains in effect until 1 a.m. Saturday.

Today’s forecast calls for rain and a possible thunderstorm through mid-afternoon before conditions begin to clear. Temperatures will fall sharply from the 50s into the low 40s by evening.

Tonight, skies will clear and winds will remain gusty, with overnight lows around 24 degrees. Saturday will bring calmer weather, mostly sunny skies, and a high near 40.

The brief reprieve continues into Sunday, which is expected to be mostly sunny with highs in the upper 40s before another cold night drops temperatures back into the low 20s.

The National Weather Service advises residents to secure outdoor items and use caution when driving, especially in high-profile vehicles.

The National Weather Service warns of gusts up to 50 mph and a sharp cooldown as a strong front moves through New Jersey heading into the weekend.
