Major League Baseball’s Worst Umpire in History Has Retired – Angel Hernandez

by Entertainment News May 28, 2024
By Entertainment News

NEW YORK, NY — It’s bad news from Jomboy Media who has reaped years of rewards on the bad calls made by Major League Baseball Umpire Angel Hernandez. He has announced he’s retiring.

MLB umpire Ángel Hernández has announced his immediate retirement, concluding a tumultuous three-decade tenure marked by frequent disputes with players and widespread criticism from fans. Hernández, 62, confirmed his retirement following earlier reports, according to a statement released today.

Hernández, whose umpiring career began in 1991, has officiated thousands of games. His final appearance came on May 9, after which Jacob Metz replaced him on Lance Barksdale’s crew. His departure from Major League Baseball involves a settlement, a source revealed.

The veteran umpire’s career was further marred by a 2017 lawsuit against MLB, in which he alleged racial discrimination. The lawsuit was dismissed by a district court judge, a decision that was later upheld by an appeals court last year. Hernández’s controversial calls, particularly during a 2018 playoff game where three of his decisions were overturned by replay in just the first four innings, fueled significant backlash.

Hernández’s contentious relations with the public intensified after the lawsuit, culminating in his retirement. His decision to retire follows a significant period missed during the 2023 season due to a back injury.

— Jomboy Media (@JomboyMedia) May 28, 2024

Despite his controversial on-field performance, Hernández is respected among his peers, who have supported him through increasing scrutiny in recent years. This season, Hernández’s judgment was again questioned after he called three strikes on clearly off-plate pitches during a game between Houston and Texas. Additionally, in 2022, he ejected Philadelphia’s Kyle Schwarber after a contentious strike call, adding to the criticisms faced by Hernández throughout his career.

New Jersey’s Oldest Running Amusement Park Is Going Strong After Recent Closure and Sale

by Shore News Network May 28, 2024
By Shore News Network

CLEMENTON, NJ — Clementon Park and Splash World, also known as Clementon Lake Park, has been a beloved destination since its establishment in 1907 by New Jersey Assemblyman Theodore B. Gibbs and his sons.

This historic site, one of the world’s oldest operating amusement parks and one of the remaining thirteen trolley parks in the U.S., recently witnessed a significant transition.

After closing in September 2019, the park was auctioned on March 23, 2021, and acquired by IB Parks & Entertainment, operated by Gene Staples, for $2,370,000. The park successfully reopened its doors to the public on Friday, June 25, 2021.

The early 20th century saw the park flourish with attractions like a nickelodeon movie theater, a steam-driven carousel, and the Jack Rabbit roller coaster, introduced in 1919. Despite facing adversities such as a devastating fire in 1931 and a grandstand collapse in 1936, the park continued to draw large crowds, including a notable 1932 speech by socialist presidential candidate Norman Thomas.

New Jersey's Oldest Running Amusement Park Is Going Strong After Recent Closure and Sale

Over the decades, ownership transitions brought new visions to the park. In 1977, the Gibbs family sold the park to Abram Baker, marking the beginning of a series of enhancements that continued into the 21st century. Notable additions included Laguna Kahuna in 2008 and several new rides in 2019.

Before its abrupt closure in 2019, the park had been under the stewardship of Premier Parks, LLC. The reopening in 2021, following its acquisition by Gene Staples, marked a new chapter. The park’s revival included the operation of all eight waterpark attractions, although initially, only a limited number of thrill and family rides were available.

The reopening of Clementon Park and Splash World not only restores a cherished local amusement hub but also represents a significant step in preserving a piece of American amusement history. With new management and revitalized attractions, the park is set to reclaim its status as a key destination in New Jersey’s entertainment landscape.

Jackson Township Memorial Day Parade Celebrates the Legacy of Those Who Sacrificed Everything

JACKSON, NJ – Mother nature allowed the Jackson Memorial Day parade to run as scheduled on Monday with clear blue skies, before rain took over for the rest of the day.

Hundreds of residents lined Manhattan Street and Kierych Memorial Drive enroute to Johnson Park where local veterans, police officers, civic groups, along with the Jackson Liberty and Memorial marching bands  marched in honor of America’s fallen heroes.

They were joined by local sports teams, girl scouts, boy scouts and other civic groups.

Jackson Council President Jennifer Kuhn marched alongside Councilmen Mordechai Burnstein, Steve Chisolm, and Nino Borelli.

“We had a great turnout considering the bad weather forecast, and luckily, the rain held off until later in the day,” said Council President Kuhn. “I am so proud of all who came out, marched, and honored our veterans on such a solemn day.”

The parade was organized by the P.O. Mike Basso of Jackson PBA 168 and Jackson VFW Post 4703.

Phil Murphy’s Juvenile Justice Reforms Are To Blame For Jersey Shore Mayhem

by Conservative Times May 28, 2024
By Conservative Times

SEASIDE HEIGHTS, NJ—Memorial Day weekend was chaotic at the Jersey Shore, not the best way to start the summer tourism season that depends heavily on families. Instead of images of families walking up and down the boardwalk, children on rides, and gatherings at the beach, the imagery of this past weekend is the stuff of horror movies.

Teens running scared, believing there were active shooters. Boardwalks filled with rowdy and unsupervised mobs of teens, the stench of marijuana, fights, stampedes, brawls, disrespect, and chaos.

Welcome to the new normal at the Jersey Shore under Governor Phil Murphy’s new juvenile criminal justice reform. Where cops and towns can’t enforce their laws for fear of violating the civil rights of teens who know they can get away with anything they want.

Disturbances on the boardwalk in Seaside Heights, Ocean City, and Wildwood led to arrests, citations, and injuries.

“The entire place smells like weed,” many families reported to Shore News Network after the weekend.

Today, the New Jersey State PBA president commended his agency’s actions to keep the peace as much as possible under new juvenile justice guidelines and policies set forth by Governor Phil Murphy’s administration.

J State PBA President Pete Andreyev said, “Our officers did an outstanding job handling out-of-control and unsupervised teens all along the Jersey shore. It will be a long summer if we don’t hold parents responsible. We all deserve better.”

Andreyev did not, however, address the handcuffing done to local police under Governor Phil Murphy’s new juvenile justice reform.

The writing was on the wall. Last year, Ocean City Mayor Jay Jillian saw it coming and laid the blame squarely where it belonged: on Governor Murphy’s desk.

“The laws they forced on all municipalities threaten public safety, and they deprive families of the opportunity to enjoy the Jersey Shore,” he said.

“In order to ensure that the safe enjoyment of the Jersey Shore is available to every family and resident, this administration will continue to work with the local elected officials and law enforcement officials of our shore towns to address this issue fairly and responsibly,” Murphy’s administration said last year.

— Doc Reichenbach (@DocReichenbach) May 27, 2024

Since then, Murphy has further eroded the tools available to police at the Jersey Shore when it comes to dealing with juvenile delinquency.

In January, Murphy rejected a bill on his desk that would have imposed a $50 ticket on minors caught with illegal alcohol, saying the law violated the rights of inner-city youth and financially disadvantaged teens.

“Affluent individuals who have the financial resources to pay fines can do so repeatedly without any impact on their behavior, which neither serves as a deterrent from future delinquent behavior nor addresses the underlying concerns with substance use,” Murphy said upon rejecting the bill. “Individuals without those same resources, who are disproportionately juveniles of color, are at risk for further involvement with the legal system because of non-payment. These consequences affect not only the juvenile but the entire family unit.”

New Jersey

“Authorities instituted a 10 p.m. curfew for teens under age 18 on Saturday night after rumors of a shooting caused several minutes of chaos on the boardwalk.”

– Patch pic.twitter.com/mIiGHYJJOv

— The Daily Sneed™ (@Tr00peRR) May 26, 2024

After handcuffing police in charging juveniles for cannabis use, Murphy used the relaxed laws he imposed on juvenile cannabis possession as the reason for not allowing fines for alcohol.

“There is no persuasive justification for treating the possession of alcoholic beverages more harshly than the possession of cannabis items, which is not subjected to monetary fines under the bill,” the Governor said.

Worse, new policies enforced by the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office could see police officers facing disciplinary measures if they hassle teens smoking weed. A 2021 law enacted by Murphy made it easy for officers to face civil rights charges and fines for enforcing illegal possession laws when it came to minors. They could even lose their job or, worse, face jail time.

New Jersey Attorney General Matt Platkin says the Murphy administration’s juvenile justice reforms are working despite the mayhem at the Jersey Shore and rampant car thefts being carried out by juveniles statewide.

— Phyu Lay (@PhyuLay60937915) May 27, 2024

The transformation of New Jersey’s youth justice system is nothing short of remarkable and as a result, New Jersey continues to be a national model for reform,” said Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin. “Even with these successes, New Jersey’s youth justice reform continues, with a specific focus on minimizing racial disparities throughout the youth justice system, increasing opportunities for the diversion of low-level offenders into community-based programs where they can obtain needed services, and strengthening partnerships between schools, the youth justice system, and other stakeholders.”

It’s not all Phil Murphy’s fault. Sure, he lit the match, but the fuel of the current problems at the Jersey Shore also lies with bad parents. Parents who have no control over their kids and let them behave as if they are the center of the world and entitled. Parents who know their kids aren’t going to get in any criminal trouble. Maybe just a few bumps and bruises.

The 2024 season at the Jersey Shore appears doomed before it even got started. The area desperately needs the income of vacationing families in light of the economic turmoil, inflation, and rising costs of living. The Jersey Shore is one of the last affordable escapes for the family unit, but they may choose to spend their dwindling cash reserves elsewhere if the governor doesn’t give towns the tools they need to maintain law and order.

Governor Murphy has not responded to the weekend of civil unrest and mayhem at the Jersey Shore over Memorial Day weekend.

Prosecutor Issues Stern Warning to Agitators in Light of Wild Weekend at the Jersey Shore

by Shore News Network May 28, 2024
By Shore News Network

CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE, NJ — Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland has issued a statement regarding recent disturbances in Wildwood and Ocean City, which occurred over the weekend and involved large groups of teens and young adults. The incidents led to significant police action to ensure public safety and prevent further escalation.

In Wildwood, police declared a state of civil unrest and closed the boardwalk to maintain control following disturbances. Meanwhile, in Ocean City, a stabbing and several fights on the boardwalk were quickly contained and controlled by local law enforcement. The investigation into the stabbing continues, with charges pending.

“For those who come to our communities to create unrest, be forewarned that your bad decisions and bad actions will not be tolerated and law enforcement will use all legal measures to arrest and charge all violators. Instead of capturing positive memories you will be issued charges to answer to and possible permanent records that will impact your future,” Sutherland said.

The coordinated efforts of the Wildwood and Ocean City Police, along with support from the County Sheriff’s Department and Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office detectives, were highlighted as exemplary in handling these difficult situations.

Prosecutor Sutherland warned those who disrupt the peace that such actions will lead to serious legal consequences. He emphasized the commitment of local law enforcement to ensuring safety for all visitors, residents, and families, enabling them to enjoy and create positive memories without interference.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to report any criminal or illegal activities to the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office at 609-465-1135, through the anonymous tip lines provided on the Prosecutor’s and Sheriff’s Office websites, or to Cape May County Crime Stoppers at 609-889-3597.

Wildwood Mayor Addresses Unrest at Boardwalk Memorial Day Weekend

by Shore News Network May 28, 2024
By Shore News Network

WILDWOOD, NJ – Police in Wildwood breaking up a boardwalk brawl contended with angry and disorderly teens encroaching them while making their arrest. The scene unfolded several times Saturday night, ending with the police department shutting down the boardwalk at midnight.

City officials and the Wildwood Police Department took decisive action in response to significant civil unrest over the Memorial Day weekend, culminating in the declaration of a local disaster emergency early Monday morning.

This response followed an overwhelming number of service calls on Saturday evening, primarily due to the city’s large gatherings of young adults and juveniles.

As the situation escalated, mutual aid was requested from several agencies in Cape May County, but due to the volume, some service calls could not be addressed immediately. In an early morning decision on Monday, local authorities, led by Chief Joseph Murphy and the city’s Emergency Management Coordinator, declared a state of emergency amid worsening conditions despite law enforcement efforts.

The emergency measures, including closing the boardwalk, were effective in managing the unrest and ensuring the safety of both residents and visitors. Commissioner of Public Safety Steve Mikulski continued, “We had measures in place ahead of the Sunday night crowds so that the police department could take these preemptive actions should the need arise. Unfortunately, the crowds necessitated the state of emergency to which our police department and other responding departments worked together to maintain order in the city.”

Mayor Ernie Troiano, Jr., emphasized the city’s zero-tolerance policy towards disruptive behavior, particularly from young, unsupervised groups.

Mayor Ernie Troiano, Jr. stated, “Wildwood will not tolerate unruly, undisciplined, unparented children nor will we stand by while the laws of the state tie the hands of the police. We wholeheartedly support the City of Wildwood Police Department in protecting this community from these nuisance crowds on our boardwalk and in the city.”

Commissioner of Public Safety Steve Mikulski noted that the city had prepared for potential issues before they escalated on Sunday night, allowing for quick implementation of emergency protocols. Commissioner Krista McConnell highlighted ongoing efforts to address such disturbances at the state level, in cooperation with local and state officials.

Although the state of emergency has now been rescinded, city leaders express their gratitude to all assisting agencies and reaffirm their commitment to maintaining public safety and order.
