Tampa Drug Trafficker Convicted Following Bench Trial

by Indira Patel May 11, 2024
By Indira Patel

According to testimony and evidence presented at trial, between 2021 and 2023, Edouard was part of a drug trafficking network that operated throughout the Middle District of Florida and elsewhere, including California. Working with others, Edouard moved methamphetamine and fentanyl originating in Mexico, shipped to California in car tires, then shipped or transported the drugs to Orlando and Tampa. Edouard carried large amounts of cash to California to purchase the narcotics, then utilized various accomplices to hide narcotics in boxes and suitcases for distribution in Florida. At trial, one co-conspirator described Edouard as “the only person between me and the cartels,” and estimated that Edouard sold him over 300 kilograms of methamphetamine in less than 10 months.

Tampa, FL – United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg announces that U.S. District Judge William F. Jung found Enock Edouard (37, Tampa) guilty of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and fentanyl, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and fentanyl, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and criminal contempt, following a bench trial. Edouard faces a minimum mandatory sentence of 10 years in federal prison. His sentencing hearing has not yet been scheduled. Edouard was arrested on April 22, 2023, and ordered detained.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Tampa Police Department, and the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. This effort is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) operation. OCDETF identifies, disrupts, and dismantles the highest-level criminal organizations that threaten the United States using a prosecutor-led, intelligence-driven, multi-agency approach. Additional information about the OCDETF Program can be found at https://www.justice.gov/OCDETF. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Michael R. Kenneth and Diego F. Novaes.

Edouard was arrested in Las Vegas. A search warrant executed at his apartment in downtown Tampa resulted in the recovery of additional fentanyl and a firearm. Law enforcement ultimately seized 15 firearms, 2 hand grenades, more than 25 kilograms of methamphetamine, and more than $80,000 in cash from Edouard and his co-conspirators.

Pennsylvania Man Arrested on Felony and Misdemeanor Charges for Alleged Actions During Jan. 6 Capitol Breach

by Indira Patel May 11, 2024
By Indira Patel

Gerald a.k.a. “Jeremiah” Powell, 51, of York, Pennsylvania, is charged in a criminal complaint filed in the District of Columbia with felony offense of civil disorder and misdemeanor offenses of entering or remaining in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly or disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly conduct in a Capitol building or grounds, and parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol building or grounds.

WASHINGTON — A Pennsylvania man has been arrested on felony and misdemeanor charges related to his conduct during the Jan. 6, 2021, breach of the U.S. Capitol. His alleged actions and the actions of others disrupted a joint session of the U.S. Congress convened to ascertain and count the electoral votes related to the 2020 presidential election.

According to court documents, Powell was identified as present among a crowd of rioters on the east front of the Capitol grounds at approximately 1:56 p.m. on Jan 6., 2021. Here, rioters and police were wrestling for control of a line of bike rack barricades and police barriers. Eventually, the police line was broken, and the crowd of rioters advanced toward the Capitol. Court documents say that Powell was amongst the first 20 rioters to move past the police line.

The FBI arrested Powell on May 9, 2024, in Pennsylvania, and his initial appearance today in the Middle District of Pennsylvania.

Court documents say that Powell entered the Capitol at about 2:40 p.m. via the East Front Doors. As Powell entered the building, he waved an American flag and proceeded into the Rotunda. Inside the Rotunda, Powell marched around the permitter waving an American flag and rested it against a Jonathan Trumbull painting. Powell then produced a bullhorn from his backpack and used it for approximately one minute.

Instead of advancing, however, Powell allegedly turned back as others surged forward. Standing next to where rioters had initially broken through the police line, it is alleged that Powell began to drag the barricades that were in front of police officers to the side, expanding the opening for rioters to move froward toward to the Capitol. Powell allegedly moved at least five barricades to the side before advancing toward the Capitol building himself.

Bridgeport Fentanyl Dealer Involved in Overdose Death Sentenced to Federal Prison

by Indira Patel May 11, 2024
By Indira Patel

According to court documents and statements made in court, in the early morning hours of April 23, 2020, a 23-year-old woman was discovered unconscious in her bedroom of her Bronx, New York residence.  Law enforcement and medical personnel responded to the scene and she was pronounced dead.  Fentanyl and drug paraphernalia were recovered from the scene, and the victim’s autopsy found that she died of “acute fentanyl intoxication.”  The investigation revealed that Oliver sold the victim fentanyl shortly before her overdose death; that he knew she had not used opioids for some time before the sale; that he warned her that the drugs could be more dangerous based on her period of sobriety; and that he deleted his Facebook account, which he used to communicate with the victim, shortly after the victim died.

Vanessa Roberts Avery, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that DANIEL OLIVER, also known as “Chase,” 30, of Bridgeport, was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Omar A. Williams in Harford to 20 months of imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release, for distributing fentanyl.

Oliver was arrested on a federal criminal complaint on September 1, 2022.  On December 4, 2023, he pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute, and distribution of, a controlled substance.  After a hearing on April 19, 2024, Judge Williams found that Oliver sold the fentanyl to the overdose victim that resulted in her death.

In January 2021, Bridgeport Police made a controlled purchase of fentanyl and heroin from Oliver.  On January 18, 2021, Oliver was arrested on state charges, and a court-authorized search of his residence revealed 140 folds containing a mixture of fentanyl and heroin, and a quantity of cocaine.

This matter was investigated by the New York City Police Department, the Bridgeport Police Department, and the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Bridgeport High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Task Force, which includes personnel from the DEA Bridgeport Resident Office, the Connecticut State Police, and the Bridgeport, Norwalk, Stamford, Stratford, Milford, and Danbury Police Departments.  The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert S. Ruff.

Oliver has been detained since his federal arrest.

Brick Cops Under State Criminal Investigation After Man Suffering Apparent Medical Episode Dies

by Traffic Reporter May 11, 2024
By Traffic Reporter

TRENTON, NJ – Police officers in Brick Township are now under a state investigation after they reported to a call of a man in distress in the street. The man later died.

Now, those cops are being investigated for possible criminal charges.

Only in New Jersey.

The Attorney General’s Office is investigating the death of an adult male following an encounter with law enforcement on Monday in Brick Township, Ocean County, New Jersey.

The male died after experiencing an apparent medical episode, with authorities yet to reveal his identity.

According to initial findings, officers responded to a distress call around 4:27 p.m., encountering the male in distress on the street. Medical assistance was provided, and the male was later pronounced dead at Ocean University Medical Center in Brick Township around 5:48 p.m.

A 2019 state law mandates that the Attorney General’s Office investigates deaths that occur during encounters with law enforcement. The law further requires such investigations to be presented to a grand jury to determine if legal action against the involved officers is warranted. The ongoing investigation aims to ascertain the cause and manner of death, along with the circumstances that led to the fatal encounter.

That law could have some cops seriously thinking about rendering assistance knowing their job could be on the line in the future, or even possible criminal charges and jail time.

No additional details have been disclosed at this time.

Livestreams Show Kensington No Different Now Than Before Cleanup Press Event

by Shore News Network May 11, 2024
By Shore News Network

PHILADELPHIA, PA – A major media event took place on Wednesday in the Kensington section of Philadelphia. Police, city officials, and city workers invited the press as they cleaned the neighborhood and relocated a homeless encampment a few blocks away.

The next morning, Thursday, Kensington was back to normal. It has been that way since. The city is working overtime to try to make the cleanup effort appear successful, but live streams on YouTube since Wednesday tell the same story.

Today, Kensington looks just like it looked on Tuesday and years before that. Drug addicts, trash, and vagrancy permeate on every street corner.

The city’s efforts did not work.

To the city’s credit, they are trying to keep the neighborhood clean, but their corps of trash collectors, transit cops, and street sweepers can’t keep up with the sheer volume of filth being generated each hour in the neighborhood.

Phil Murphy Announces New Climate Tax to Save New Jersey Coastline from Sinking Into the Ocean

by Conservative Times May 11, 2024
By Conservative Times

TRENTON, NJ – A new plan to defend New Jersey against the threat of global warming and rising sea levels amounts to little more than another tax on businesses, developers, and homeowners in the form of financial fines for violating strict new government rules.

“Today, we’re announcing sweeping reforms to protect homes and businesses from climate change. NJ will become the first state in the nation to enact comprehensive land resource regulations to protect against extreme weather, coastal flooding, & sea-level rise,” Governor Phil Murphy tweeted.

Hidden within the plan’s pages is a series of increases in fines levied against those who violate the sweeping new changes. Those new fees and fines more than double the existing fees and fines.

Those fees would be charged against communities and waterfront developers. The plan, however, exempts any shoreline construction involving ‘green energy’ such as offshore windmill stations, cables, and facilities.

The goal is to save the Garden State from being claimed by the sea, officially, but the New Jersey DEP states, in context, New Jersey is responsible for 1.7% of national emissions and 0.3% of worldwide emissions.

According to the new plan’s projections, sea levels could rise by 5 feet by 2100. That means New Jersey’s barrier islands would be swallowed by the ocean, and towns like Toms River, Rio Grande, Manahawkin, and others would one day be oceanfront communities if New Jersey doesn’t double the fines on development and redevelopment along the coastal shorelines.

“Sea levels at Atlantic City, Cape May, and Sandy Hook have risen at a rate of approximately 0.16 inches per year (4 millimeters per year) since the beginning of the 20th century (Kopp 2013, NOAA 2019). By 2050, there is a 50 percent chance that sea-level rise will meet or exceed 1.4 feet and a 17 percent chance it will exceed 2.1 feet (Kopp et al., 2019). Under a moderate emission scenario, described below, those levels increase to 3.3 and 5.1 feet by the end of the century,” the report said.

The plan and fines are expected to stop the projected rate of global warming from swallowing up the Jersey Shore, as predicted by some scientists. Murphy believes New Jersey can reverse global warming by implementing these fines and the 1,057-page document.

Meanwhile, the Murphy administration is also forcing communities across New Jersey to build high-density residential apartment complexes and affordable housing in economically preserved and sensitive areas such as South Jersey and Central Jersey, Those affordable housing mandates are forcing towns to allow developers to clear cut thousands of acres of forests and untouched land annually.

New York District Attorneys Seek Approval of New Deadly Driving Bill

BRONX, NY—District Attorneys from Suffolk, Bronx, and Queens counties have united to press for the swift passage of the “Deadly Driving Bill.” Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney, alongside Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark and Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz, voiced their support for this crucial legislation during a Bronx rally. The event took place at the location where a 67-year-old man was tragically killed by an alleged drugged driver in September last year.

The district attorneys highlighted the urgent need for the bill, which aims to close legal loopholes that currently prevent the arrest and prosecution of drivers visibly impaired by drugs not listed in a specific section of the Public Health Law. “This Mother’s Day weekend, the consequences of drugged driving are starkly visible in the empty seats at family tables,” stated DA Tierney, emphasizing the widespread impact of such incidents.

DA Clark reinforced the necessity of the bill, pointing out that it would equip law enforcement with the tools needed to hold accountable those driving under the influence of any impairing substance. DA Katz further explained the ongoing vehicular violence epidemic in New York, citing increases in fatalities due to vehicular collisions in Queens. The proposed legislation aims to simplify the process of prosecuting drugged drivers, addressing significant gaps in the current vehicle and traffic laws.
