Two men arrested after stolen Dodge Charger tracked to Wilmington neighborhood
WILMINGTON, DE — A pair of 20-year-olds are facing felony charges after state troopers tracked a stolen Dodge Charger to a quiet Wilmington street early Monday morning, uncovering a reprogrammed key fob and a hidden vehicle under a car cover.
On October 20 at approximately 5:00 a.m., Delaware State Police were alerted that a Dodge Charger stolen from New Jersey was being electronically tracked to the 1600 block of Bonwood Road. The vehicle had been reported stolen by the Maple Shade Police Department.
Investigators say the suspects — identified as Meshech Morris of Wilmington and Marquist Charpentier of Lanham, Maryland — had driven to a dealership in an Infiniti Q50, stole the Charger, and fled the scene in both vehicles.
When troopers arrived at Bonwood Road, they saw Morris and Charpentier leaving the area in the Infiniti. A parked car concealed under a cover was found nearby. Both suspects were taken into custody without incident.
During a search of the Infiniti, troopers recovered a device used to program universal key fobs and a functional reprogrammed key fob. When the unlock button was pressed, the headlights of the covered vehicle turned on, confirming it was the stolen Dodge Charger.
Morris was taken to Troop 6 and charged with multiple felony offenses, including possession of a stolen vehicle and criminal conspiracy. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $9,000 secured bond.
