PARSIPPANY, NJ – Tropical Storm Ophelia has formed off the Southeast coast near North Carolina and is moving North towards New Jersey. The Parsippany Office of Emergency Management is actively monitoring the storm’s track and potential effects on the area.
The current forecast predicts 2-4 inches of rain and the possibility of flash flooding in the region. Sustained winds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected. Although widespread power outages and severe flooding are not anticipated at this time, the Office of Emergency Management advises caution and preparedness.
Residents are reminded to never drive through flooded roadways and to report any downed power lines to JCP&L and/or the Police Department immediately. Reducing vehicle speeds during rainfall and allowing extra travel time are also advised.
The Office of Emergency Management will provide the next update on Saturday morning. Any change in the storm’s path could alter the potential effects on the area.
