NEWARK, N.J. – Justin Pope, a 36-year-old man from Clifton, Passaic County, New Jersey, has been indicted by a federal grand jury on two counts of being a convicted felon in possession of ammunition.
The charges were announced on Friday by U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger.
Pope was arrested on July 13, following a public altercation that led to the discharge of a firearm in a public parking lot.
After the incident, Pope posted a video on a social media account showing him firing a gun in the air, proclaiming that the police would never find him. However, he was apprehended hours later while attempting to board a bus in New York City.
Each count of being a felon in possession of ammunition carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. The investigation that led to Pope’s charges was carried out by a collaborative effort of the FBI and various local police departments.
