PATH riders get relief options as Hoboken switch issues continue

HOBOKEN, N.J. — PATH riders facing delays due to ongoing switch problems at Hoboken Terminal will have expanded travel alternatives through Friday night, officials announced.

Starting 6 a.m. Tuesday through 11:59 p.m. Friday, NJ TRANSIT and New York Waterway will cross-honor PATH customers on select routes and times. The move comes as PATH continues to operate on a modified schedule during peak hours.

PATH passengers can use their fare cards or the RidePATH app’s virtual pass for the following options:

  • NJ TRANSIT Rail: Cross-honoring will be in effect at Hoboken, Secaucus Junction, and New York Penn Station.
  • NJ TRANSIT Hudson-Bergen Light Rail: Accepted at Exchange Place, Newport, and Hoboken stations.
  • New York Waterway Ferries: Discounted $3 fares will be available on two ferry routes during rush hours:
    • Between Hoboken/NJT Terminal and Brookfield Place: 6 a.m.–10 a.m. and 3 p.m.–7 p.m.
    • Between Hoboken/NJT Terminal and Midtown/West 39th Street: 6:55 a.m.–9:35 a.m. and 4:18 p.m.–7:30 p.m.

Discounted ferry tickets will be available for purchase through the NY Waterway app starting by 5 a.m. Tuesday, or at ferry ticket counters. Riders must present valid PATH fare to access the reduced rate.

Meanwhile, PATH will continue to run trains every 10 minutes on the Hoboken–World Trade Center and Hoboken–33rd Street lines during rush hours, with regular service at all other times.

The temporary accommodations aim to ease commuting disruptions as switch repairs continue at the Hoboken hub.
