Pedestrian seriously injured in Jersey City hit and run

JERSEY CITY, NJ – On November 3, 2021, shortly after 9:30 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department responded to the area of 740 Route 440 in Jersey City on a report of a vehicle striking a pedestrian. Upon arrival, responding officers found one pedestrian with life-threatening injuries in the northbound lane. The vehicle that struck the pedestrian had left the scene.

The pedestrian was later identified as Phillip Delancy, age 36, from Jersey City. He was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at approximately 10:25 p.m. The cause and manner of death are pending an investigation by the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

The events surrounding the crash are under investigation by the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit with assistance from the Jersey City Police Department. No charges have been filed at this time.
