Pedestrian struck and killed by NYPD cruiser

NEW YORK, NY – A 52-year-old woman was struck and killed by a New York City Police Department cruiser in Far Rockaway, Queens Friday night.

At around 8:30 pm, a police vehicle en route to an emergency call was involved in a multi-vehicle crash after attempting to pass a vehicle. The impact of the crash sent the cruiser onto the nearby sidewalk, striking the woman.

The incident is under investigation. The officers were responding to a call for help by another NYPD officer.

She was standing in the bike lane at the time of the crash.

The woman was rushed to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. Four NYPD officers inside the vehicle were treated a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The woman’s name was not released at this time. The identities of the officers were not made known.
