Pedestrian struck, driver fled scene on I-78

NEWARK, NJ – The New Jersey State Police is seeking the public’s assistance with a serious motor vehicle crash investigation that occurred this morning on Interstate 78 in Essex County. Based on the preliminary investigation, detectives determined that at approximately 7:52 a.m., a pedestrian was struck by a silver minivan or suv on Interstate 78 eastbound in the area of milepost 56.8, Newark, Essex County.

The pedestrian sustained serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital. The driver of the minivan or suv fled the scene after the crash and continued traveling east on Interstate 78. Anyone with information or who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact Troop “B” Somerville Station at 908-725-0107.
