Pennsylvania to eliminate college degree requirements for state jobs

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Pennsylvania may soon join the growing number of states that will drop the requirement of a college degree in order to get a state job. You still, might actually need to know somebody in high places to get a good job, but legally, the requirement could soon go away.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro announced he will be eliminating the four-year degree requirement on most state jobs.

Governor Shapiro was one of the first governors to take action to remove degree requirements, along with the governors of Maryland, Colorado, and Utah, who have implemented similar policies.

Former U.S. President Barack Obama lauded Shapiro’s effort, saying it was smart policy to remove unnecessary college degree requirements to reduce barriers to good-paying jobs.

Correction – Story initially said “Philadelphia” instead of Pennsylvania. While not inaccurate, it has been changed to reflect Pennsylvania as a state, not just Philadelphia.
