PERTH AMBOY, NJ – Authorities announced a fatal stabbing incident in Perth Amboy resulting in the death of 40-year-old Rosana Rodriguez and subsequent charges against her husband, Wellinton Leonardo.

The Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Perth Amboy Police Chief Lawrence Cattano confirmed Leonardo’s charges. On Thursday, around 2:57 AM, a 911 call reported a stabbing at Bertrand Avenue. Officers found both Rodriguez and Leonardo lying on the kitchen floor.

Rodriguez was transported to Hackensack Meridian Hospital Raritan Bay Medical Center, where she later died. Leonardo was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital for treatment.

An investigation led by Detective Danny Hernandez of the Perth Amboy Police Department and Detective Michelle Coppola of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office revealed this was not a random act. It was confirmed that Rodriguez and Leonardo were married.
