Phil Murphy announces transgender cabinet appointment

TRENTON, NJ – New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy has appointed a transgender woman to a post in his cabinet.

In a historic move, New Jersey has made history by appointing its inaugural transgender cabinet official. The New Jersey Senate unanimously voted on Tuesday to officially confirm Allison Myers as the Chair and CEO of the New Jersey Civil Service Commission.

Expressing her vision for the future, Myers addressed the Judiciary Committee prior to the vote, stating, “Moving forward, it becomes imperative to explore innovative approaches to achieve recruitment and retention objectives, while ensuring the ongoing fulfillment of public service employers’ requirements in the state of New Jersey.” These remarks were reported by the New Jersey Globe.

With confidence, Myers added, “I am fully prepared to take on this challenge and I am grateful for the consideration given to me for this remarkable opportunity.”
