Philadelphia police release images of man accused in daylight indecent assault

Philadelphia, PA – A woman walking through Philadelphia’s Fairhill neighborhood on Tuesday afternoon escaped after a man allegedly approached her from behind and aggressively grabbed her before fleeing the area, according to the Philadelphia Police Department’s Special Victims Unit.

The assault happened around 12:45 p.m. on the 2600 block of Collins Street inside the city’s 26th Police District. Investigators said the suspect ran south toward Huntingdon Street immediately after the encounter, leaving officers searching for surveillance footage and public tips that could identify him.

Philadelphia police described the suspect as a Black male between 30 and 40 years old with a medium build. Detectives said he wore all-black clothing, including a black coat with a fur-lined hood, and carried a crossbody bag at the time of the incident.

The complainant told investigators she was walking in the area when the man came up from behind and grabbed her aggressively before taking off on foot.

The Special Victims Unit released photos of the suspect and asked residents to review them closely in hopes someone recognizes the individual.

Police did not release additional details about whether the suspect and victim knew each other or whether nearby surveillance cameras captured the encounter.
