Philadelphia man arrested in Millsboro traffic stop with drugs machete and DUI charges
Millsboro, DE — A routine late-night traffic stop in Millsboro escalated into a major arrest after Delaware State Police say a Philadelphia man was found with drugs, a concealed weapon, and signs of impairment behind the wheel.
Shortly after midnight Sunday, a state trooper observed a gray Dodge Charger traveling northbound on Dupont Boulevard near Centerview Drive with a headlight out. The vehicle was stopped, and the driver was identified as 61-year-old Jose Morales-Colon of Philadelphia. While speaking with him, the trooper detected the odor of marijuana and observed indicators of impairment.
After standardized field sobriety tests were conducted, Morales-Colon was taken into custody without incident. A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered approximately 18.77 grams of cocaine, about 0.72 grams of marijuana, half a dosage unit of suspected oxycodone, a large serrated machete concealed in the rear passenger seat, and $8,135 in suspected drug proceeds.
Morales-Colon was transported to Delaware State Police Troop 4, where he was formally charged and arraigned through Justice of the Peace Court 7. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $51,503 cash bond.
Charges filed against Morales-Colon include possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, driving under the influence of a combination of alcohol and drugs, multiple drug possession and paraphernalia offenses, and several traffic violations.
The investigation remains ongoing.
