WOODBURY HEIGHTS, NJ – Attempted murder charges have been filed against a man who is said to have stabbed a 70-year-old relative in her abdomen.

The emergency call came in from a Woodbury Heights resident shortly after 11 a.m. on Sunday. According to legal documents, she reported that Anthony P. Delconte, 29, of Philadelphia, attacked her without provocation and then left the area on foot.

During his arrest, Delconte made the statement, “I had no choice. I had to do it. I had to stab her,” according to the affidavit, as reported by NJ.com today.

Police who arrived at the scene found the woman with multiple wounds to her lower abdomen. She was subsequently rushed to a nearby hospital for immediate care.

Authorities apprehended Delconte in a neighboring town not long after the incident. When arrested, he was found to have blood on his clothing and was carrying a folding knife also covered in blood, as detailed in a probable cause affidavit filed alongside the charges.
