Pinellas County Roads Closed to Outside Access As Police Assess Milton Damages

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — All access points to Pinellas County have been closed as officials begin to assess damage caused by a recent storm, authorities announced on Thursday. The closures will remain in effect until further notice, as dangerous conditions persist throughout the area.

Significant damage, including downed trees, power infrastructure, and flooding, has made roadways hazardous in parts of the county. Local officials reported that roughly 60% of the county is without power, and potable water and sewer services are unavailable in the City of St. Petersburg, Gulfport, and Lealman.

“We’re asking residents to continue to shelter in place and stay off the roadways,” officials said in a statement. “If you left the county, do not return until the county is reopened.”

Emergency crews are currently assessing the extent of the damage and working to restore essential services. There is no estimated timeline for when access to the county will be restored.

Authorities urged residents to remain vigilant and adhere to safety instructions while recovery efforts are underway.
