Police Arrest Fugitive Wanted for February Murder in Newport News

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The Newport News Police Department announced the successful apprehension of Jamal Lamonte Mitchell, a suspect in a February homicide.

On Thursday, Mitchell was found at a residence in Hampton and arrested without incident.

Mitchell, 34, was wanted for the second-degree murder of 57-year-old Joseph Jones that occurred on Orcutt Avenue on February 17.

The arrest was executed in collaboration with the Hampton Police Division and the NNPD Detectives and Fugitive Apprehension Team.

This arrest is one of three this week linked to homicides in Newport News.
