Police arrest man for assault and shooting in Harwood

HARWOOD, MD – A Harwood man who fired a gun in the air, then pointed the empty firearm at multiple victims ended up pushing woman down a set of porch stairs on Sunday.

According to police, officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 4700 block of Flanders Lane in Harwood at approximately 9:30 p.m.

A 911 caller indicated that a male was arguing with his mother and was armed outside the residence.

Upon arrival, officers encountered the suspect outside on the porch and were able to arrest him immediately.

During their investigation, officers discovered that the suspect and the victim were having a verbal dispute outside on the front porch. The suspect grabbed the victim by her jacket, and she fell down the porch steps.

Two additional victims spoke with officers who said the suspect was still arguing with the female when his juvenile son and adult daughter attempted to intervene. In addition to retrieving a handgun, the suspect went inside the residence.

As the suspect pointed an empty firearm at the victims, he fired several rounds into the air. In her adult daughter’s opinion, the suspect began to pistol whip his son after realizing the firearm was empty. It was discovered during the investigation that the suspect was prohibited from possessing a firearm. Many pieces of evidence were recovered from the scene, including the handgun used in the incident. The victims were treated for minor injuries.

Police arrested and charged Robert Lee Bias Jr., 40, accordingly.
