Police Arrest Suspect for Setting Fire to Apartment in Somerville

SOMERVILLE, NJ — A Somerville resident was apprehended on charges of arson following a late-night fire on October 25 at an East Main Street apartment.

Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald, alongside Chief of County Detectives Francisco Roman Jr. and Somerville Chief of Police Dennis Manning, announced the arrest of Dashawn Holmes, 40, in connection with the incident. Authorities responded to a fire alarm at approximately 11:57 p.m., where local firefighters extinguished the blaze and discovered Holmes unconscious. The Somerville Fire Marshall deemed the fire suspicious, prompting an investigation by county and local detectives.

The investigation concluded that Holmes had deliberately started the fire. He was arrested on October 30 in Toms River and charged with third-degree arson, awaiting a detention hearing while held at Somerset County Jail.
