Police captain in Oklahoma rams vehicle head-on to precent mass casualty at nearby festival

SALLISAW, OK – A police captain in Sallisaw, Oklahoma, took swift action to protect children at the Diamond Daze Festival by using his patrol vehicle to stop a pursuit suspect from approaching the event. He successfully prevented a potentially dangerous situation by colliding with the suspect’s vehicle in a head-on collision.

The driver was being chased by officers when he headed toward the festival. Captain John Weber intervened to halt the pursuit and ensure the safety of the public, putting his own life in danger.

Sallisaw Police Chief Terry Franklin praised Weber’s heroic act, noting that the vehicle going into the event would have caused “massive casualties.”

The suspect and his passengers were unharmed during the incident, while Weber suffered a broken wrist and Officer Wesley McGuirt suffered cuts and bruises.
