Police investigating fatal crash in Townsend

Townsend, DE – The Delaware State Police have launched an investigation into a tragic motor vehicle collision that occurred in Townsend yesterday evening, resulting in the loss of a life.

On Saturday at approximately 5:37 p.m., a blue 2019 Promaster delivery van was traveling westbound on Harvey Straughn Road, located east of Black Stallion Road.

At the same time, a red 2005 Harley-Davidson motorcycle was traveling eastbound on Harvey Straughn Road, west of Vandyke Greenspring Road. The delivery van initiated a left turn onto a residential driveway, entering the path of the eastbound motorcycle. Despite the motorcyclist’s efforts to brake and avoid the collision, they were unable to do so and collided with the right side of the van.

The motorcyclist, a 20-year-old man from Dover, Delaware, sustained critical injuries and was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital via a State Police helicopter.

The motorcycle’s passenger, a 23-year-old woman from Hartly, Delaware, succumbed to her injuries at the scene. To respect the privacy of her grieving family and relatives, her identity is being withheld at this time.

The driver of the van, a 23-year-old woman from Wilmington, Delaware, did not sustain any injuries in the incident.
