Police Report Facebook Scanner News Operator Had Alleged Hit List When He Showed Up for Fight With US Army Veteran

Authorities say a New Jersey blogger showed up at a veteran’s home over social media posts, sparking a physical confrontation captured on a Ring camera.

Beachwood, NJ – A confrontation between a local Facebook emergency news blogger and a U.S. Army veteran escalated into a physical fight outside a Beachwood home after the blogger allegedly showed up to confront the man about social media posts, according to a police report.

Officers responded to the disturbance on February 17 after receiving reports that two men were fighting on the front lawn of a residence.

Key Points

• Police responded to a disturbance after a man arrived at a Beachwood home to confront a resident about Facebook posts
• The confrontation escalated into a physical fight captured on a Ring doorbell camera
• Dispatch notes also referenced claims the man previously appeared at the home with guns and allegedly had a “hit list”

Dispute escalated after arrival at residence

According to the Beachwood Police Department investigation report, officers were dispatched around 6:54 p.m. after the disturbance turned physical. Police said the confrontation began when Christopher Lyle arrived at the residence to confront the homeowner about social media posts he believed were being made about his family.

When officers arrived, they observed the Army combat veteran restraining another on the front lawn. The two individuals were separated and offered medical attention. Lyle told police that he confronted the retired soldier after an alleged comment was made about his daughter online, a claim the soldier denied.

In the video, Lyle said he drove 45 minutes to confront the man at his home. The man’s young daughter called police who arrived after Lyle was subdued during the scuffle.

The homeowner told Lyle several times to leave the property, but police said Lyle continued walking toward the house. The entire incident was caught on the man’s home video camera.

Ring camera captured fight

The dispute, which initially began verbally, soon escalated into a physical altercation. Ring doorbell footage shared online showed the homeowner telling Lyle to “get off my property” as Lyle approached the residence.

Moments later, the two men were seen striking each other with their hands and fists before falling to the ground during the struggle.

Dispatch notes referenced alleged threats

Supplemental dispatch notes in the police report stated that earlier claims had been made that Lyle had previously come to the home with firearms and allegedly maintained a “hit list.”

The report also indicated the dispute stemmed from ongoing tensions related to social media posts involving the homeowner’s family.

Trespassing charge

Court records show Lyle is due in court on March 3rd, however that case has been rescheduled for April 14th.

Police said Lyle was advised he would be charged with criminal trespassing on a summons complaint based on witness statements and the video evidence.

Both parties declined further medical treatment after being evaluated at the scene, though one individual initially complained of head pain.

Authorities said both individuals were advised they could file their own complaints in Beachwood Municipal Court regarding the mutual fight.

Records show that Lyle was arrested last year in Manchester, where he was charged with harassment after allegedly making violent threats and being confronted by police at a Wawa on Route 37. Court documents indicate he was charged under statute 2C:33-4(A) for “communication in a manner to cause alarm.” His firearms were seized by authorities as a precaution, and he remains under court supervision pending that case.
