NEW YORK — The NYPD is asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect wanted for stealing a gold-plated metal rose from a 9/11 memorial at the Church of St. Francis of Assisi in Midtown Manhattan on Wednesday afternoon.
According to police, the theft occurred around 2:30 p.m. inside the church, located at 135 West 31st Street. The individual entered the premises and removed the rose without permission before fleeing the scene on foot in an unknown direction.
Authorities have not released further details about the suspect or the value of the stolen item. The gold-plated rose was part of a memorial honoring those lost in the September 11, 2001, attacks.
The NYPD is actively investigating the incident and reviewing surveillance footage to identify the suspect.
