Police Shoot Suspect near Toledo Blade Building

TOLEDO, OH – A suspect was injured following a police-involved shooting near the Toledo Blade building at Superior and Orange downtown on Thursday afternoon.

The Toledo Police Department reported that SWAT officers identified a man crossing Cherry Street with a visible firearm in his jacket. When officers approached the individual, he attempted to flee.

As the situation escalated, the suspect advanced towards one of the officers with his weapon drawn. In response, the officer fired a single round, resulting in the suspect sustaining a minor graze wound to his leg. After dropping his firearm, the suspect was apprehended.

The injured individual was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. As of now, the suspect’s identity remains undisclosed, and charges are still pending.

In line with the department’s protocol, the involved officer will be placed on paid administrative leave. The Toledo Police Department announced a press conference scheduled for Oct. 31 at 10 a.m. to further address the incident, warning of potentially graphic content.
