CHICAGO, ILL. – Chicago police are alerting residents to a series of armed robberies in the Morgan Park neighborhood, where suspects arranged fake online sales of Nike and Jordan sneakers before robbing victims at gunpoint.
According to investigators, six robberies occurred between December 3 and December 18 after victims responded to Facebook Marketplace listings under the account name “Serving Best Deals.” During the meetings, one or more offenders displayed firearms and took the victims’ merchandise. In two of the incidents, a second suspect also pointed a gun at the victims.
The reported robberies took place at the following locations: the 1700 block of West Steuben on December 3 around 1:30 p.m.; the 1700 block of West Edmaire on December 4 at 4:15 p.m.; the 11300 block of South Davol twice on December 10, at 1:37 p.m. and again at 3:49 p.m.; the 1600 block of West Monterey on December 18 at 5:20 p.m.; and the 11000 block of South Ashland later that evening at 8:17 p.m.
The primary suspect is described as a Black male between 18 and 21 years old, standing about 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall, with a light complexion, dreadlock hairstyle, tattoos on both hands, and wearing a black puffy coat, gray pants, and white Jordan shoes. A second suspect, also described as a Black male, is believed to be between 25 and 30 years old, about 5 feet 11 inches tall, and was last seen wearing all black.
Police are urging residents to exercise caution when arranging online transactions and to meet in well-lit, public areas or designated exchange zones near police stations.
