QUEENS, NY — Tyrell Dennis has been sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for the murder of a 35-year-old man in Far Rockaway. Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced the sentencing. The fatal shooting occurred in August 2020 in an apartment building, marking a grim instance of gun violence in the community.
Dennis, a 35-year-old resident of Far Rockaway, faced charges of murder in the second degree, criminal possession of a weapon, and menacing. The conviction came after trial testimony and video evidence detailed Dennis’s actions on August 1, 2020. He was seen menacing a woman in the apartment building before killing Eric Thomas with a single gunshot. Following an arrest in Pennsylvania for unrelated charges, Dennis was extradited to New York, culminating in today’s sentencing by Queens Supreme Court Justice Michael Aloise.
