Highland ticket hits for $50K in Powerball third-prize win

Highland, NY — A Powerball player in Highland won $50,000 after purchasing a third-prize-winning ticket for the October 1 drawing, the New York Lottery announced.

The winning ticket was sold at Highland Mart, located at 3600 US Highway 9W. The ticket matched four white balls and the red Powerball—enough to secure the third-tier prize of $50,000. The identity of the winner has not been disclosed.

Powerball numbers are drawn from a field of one through 69, with the red Powerball drawn separately from a pool of one through 26. Drawings take place every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 p.m., with televised broadcasts across participating states.

Third-prize winners are awarded $50,000 before applicable taxes, and prizes may be claimed up to one year from the date of the drawing. The amount is fixed unless a Power Play multiplier was selected, which can increase winnings up to $500,000 depending on the draw.

The New York Lottery remains the highest-grossing lottery in North America, contributing $3.6 billion to public education in the 2024–2025 fiscal year.
