Rain threatens to wash out weekend plans at the jersey shore

SEASIDE HEIGHTS, N.J. — Another round of wet weather is expected to dampen weekend activities at the Jersey Shore, with rain and thunderstorms forecast to move through the area beginning Friday night and continuing into Sunday.

Forecasters predict only a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms during the day Friday, with partly sunny skies and a high near 78 degrees. Winds will remain light from the east at around 5 mph. The chance of precipitation during the day stands at 20%.

By Friday night, conditions are expected to deteriorate. Showers and thunderstorms are likely after 3 a.m., with increasing cloud cover and a low around 62 degrees. The chance of precipitation rises to 60%, with potential rainfall amounts between a tenth and a quarter of an inch, though localized thunderstorms may bring heavier downpours.

Weekend outlook remains wet and unsettled

On Saturday, showers and thunderstorms are likely throughout the day. Morning rain may persist until 11 a.m., followed by intermittent showers into the afternoon and evening. The high will reach around 69 degrees, with light northeast winds continuing. The chance of rain remains at 60%, though forecasted rainfall amounts are expected to stay below a tenth of an inch outside of thunderstorms.

Saturday night will bring more unsettled weather, with a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms under cloudy skies. Overnight temperatures will drop to around 58 degrees.

By Sunday, conditions may improve slightly, though showers remain in the forecast. Thunderstorms are also possible late in the day after 5 p.m. The high is expected to be near 67 degrees, with an east wind between 5 to 10 mph. The chance of precipitation stands at 30%, with light rainfall amounts anticipated outside of any stronger storms.
