Reckless Driver Causes Multi-Vehicle Crash on Albany Street

Schenectady Police apprehended a 21-year-old man following a multi-vehicle accident on Albany Street near Schenectady Street on October 12, 2023, at around 5:32 p.m. Officers initially spotted the man, identified as Ziyad Mohammed of Schenectady, driving recklessly and at high speeds in the Craig Street area.

When police attempted to pull over Mohammed, he sped away, quickly losing control of his vehicle. In the ensuing chaos, Mohammed’s car collided with two other vehicles on Albany Street.

A spokesperson from the Schenectady Police Department reported that one of the struck vehicles had two occupants, both of whom sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Ziyad Mohammed was immediately taken into custody at the scene of the accident. He was then transported to Albany Medical Center for treatment of injuries he sustained during the crash. Mohammed faces multiple charges, including Reckless Endangerment in the Second Degree, Assault in the Third Degree, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in the Third Degree, Obstructing Governmental Administration in the Second Degree, and various vehicle and traffic offenses.

Despite the severity of the charges, Mohammed was released on appearance tickets at Albany Medical Center.
