Fort Washington man scratches off $100K lottery win during work break
FORT WASHINGTON, MD – A longtime recreational therapist got a dose of unexpected therapy himself this week — in the form of a $100,000 top-prize scratch-off win that had him pinching himself at work to make sure it was real.
The Prince George’s County man, who has worked in the field of recreational therapy for 25 years, purchased two $100,000 Crossword scratch-offs at Modern Liquors, located at 2358 Iverson Street in Temple Hills. He scratched one of the $10 tickets during a work break and uncovered 10 matching words across puzzles two and three — enough to trigger the game’s $100,000 top prize.
Still in disbelief, he told Maryland Lottery officials that he had to stop and double-check what he was seeing, describing it as a surreal moment.
He claimed the prize on Monday, September 22, at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. The winner said he plans to use the six-figure windfall to pay off debts and bring his finances into balance.
As the retailer that sold the winning ticket, Modern Liquors will receive a $1,000 bonus, representing 1% of the prize value.
