FREDERICK, MD – Police in Frederick have reported that a rumor circulating about a knife attack during a fight in Baker Park and Frederick High School was unfounded.
“Upon further investigation, it is evident that a stabbing did not occur. The victim, an FCPS student, was involved in an altercation which involved a knife,” the department reported Thursday night. “At no time did the offender ever use or attempt to use a knife on the victim, nor made the victim attempt to use the knife during the assault. “
UPDATE: The Frederick Police Department has issued the following update which contradicts the earlier report:
“A FCPS student was found suffering from injuries sustained from a knife. Based on the initial investigation, a student involved in a fight came onto the FHS campus from Baker Park.”
Police said the investigation is ongoing and are trying to determine what happened during the incident.
“This is an active investigation,” FPD said in a statement today.
On Thursday, at around 2:30 p.m., officers from The Frederick Police Department were dispatched to Frederick High School for a report of a fight that took place off school property.

“Upon arrival, officers located an FCPS student suffering from injuries sustained from a knife. Based on the initial investigation, a student involved in a fight came onto the FHS campus from Baker Park,” police said in a statement. “The injured student was taken to the school health room where they received treatment from health room staff until EMS arrived on the scene.”
After the incident, police presence at local schools was on heightened alert.
There was an increased police presence in the areas of Frederick High, West Frederick Middle, and Parkway Elementary during afternoon dismissal, which took place on time.
