Rockville man killed in early morning Gaithersburg pedestrian crash

GAITHERSBURG, MD — A 61-year-old Rockville man died early Wednesday morning after being struck by a car while crossing a Gaithersburg roadway, Montgomery County Police said.

David Albert Parker was crossing Watkins Mill Road around 5:30 a.m. when he was hit by a silver 2018 Toyota Camry near the intersection with Spectrum Drive. Emergency crews found the driver performing CPR on Parker when they arrived, authorities said.

Montgomery County Police, Gaithersburg City Police, and Montgomery County Fire Rescue responded to the scene. Paramedics provided further aid, but Parker was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to investigators with the Collision Reconstruction Unit, the Toyota was headed eastbound on Watkins Mill Road when the crash occurred. The specific circumstances leading up to the collision remain under investigation.

Police said the driver stayed at the scene and has been cooperating with detectives.

The Montgomery County Collision Reconstruction Unit is leading the inquiry and has requested assistance from the public. “CRU detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision to call 240-773-6620,” police said.

Officials have not released the name of the driver, and no charges have been announced as of Friday.

Watkins Mill Road remained partially closed during the morning commute while authorities processed the scene.
