SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – A 67-year-old Rotterdam man has been arrested after police say he tried to lure a child into his van with candy before attempting to grab her as she walked home from school in Schenectady.
The incident happened September 17 around 4:30 p.m. on the 900 block of Delamont Avenue. According to police, the child ran home safely and immediately told her parent, who then reported the encounter to the Schenectady Police Department.
Investigators reviewed the city’s camera system and quickly identified a suspect. Officers later located the man at his residence, placed him under arrest, and transported him to the Schenectady County Jail.
The suspect, identified as Douglas J. Myer, 67, of Rotterdam, has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child, a Class A misdemeanor.
Police did not release further details about the case but said the investigation remains ongoing.
