Shooter who opened fire in Jersey City sentenced to nearly 4 decades

Bayonne man sentenced to 38 years in prison for Jersey City shooting

Jersey City, NJ – A 33-year-old Bayonne man has been sentenced to 38 years in state prison for a 2022 shooting that left a victim wounded in Jersey City, following a conviction on multiple charges including attempted murder and weapons offenses.

Elijah Wilson was sentenced Thursday by Judge Daniel DeSalvo to 30 years for attempted murder and an additional 8 years for a weapons charge involving persons not permitted to possess firearms. The sentences will run consecutively, totaling 38 years in New Jersey State Prison.

Wilson was convicted at trial of attempted murder, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and possession of a weapon by a certain person. The case was prosecuted by Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor Erica Bertuzzi.

The charges stem from a shooting that occurred on November 5, 2022, in the area of Clinton Avenue and West Side Avenue in Jersey City. The victim survived the shooting.

Hudson County officials announced the sentencing on Thursday, and no further details about the motive or circumstances of the shooting were immediately released.
