Shooting in Charlottesville Leaves One Dead

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – A shooting incident was reported on Saturday, around 2:59 a.m. on the 200 block of East Market Street.

Upon arrival, Charlottesville Police found 48-year-old Daniel O’Brien with gunshot injuries.

O’Brien was taken to the University of Virginia Medical Center. Sadly, he later succumbed to his injuries. The CPD Detectives have been summoned to the scene and have taken over the investigation.

CPD is actively seeking any witnesses and has requested nearby businesses and residents to review their surveillance footage from specific areas, including East Market St, East Jefferson St, East High St, and adjacent blocks.

While the motive behind the shooting is unclear, CPD mentioned that there doesn’t seem to be a threat to the general public, implying the incident wasn’t random.
