ShotSpotter Alert Leads to Police to Shooting Victim in Newark

NEWARK, NJ – On Sunday evening, a ShotSpotter device alerted Newark Police to nearly a dozen gunshots in the Central Ward.

Officers arrived at Springfield Avenue near Home Depot around 5:15 p.m. and discovered several shell casings on the ground.

Further investigation revealed a male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds near 399 Springfield Avenue. Emergency medical services performed CPR on the unidentified victim, who is now in critical condition.

Witnesses described the suspect as a black male wearing a hoodie. The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office has been notified of the shooting, and the investigation is ongoing. No other injuries have been reported at this time.
