Silver Spring Man Indicted Following Fatal Collision in Gaithersburg

A Silver Spring man, 33-year-old Aaron Givens, has been indicted by a Montgomery County grand jury on charges related to a fatal collision. Givens turned himself in to Montgomery County Police on March 4, 2024, after a warrant was issued for his arrest.

The charges against Givens include negligent homicide by vehicle, criminally negligent manslaughter by vehicle, and driving a vehicle in a race/speed contest. These charges stem from an incident that occurred on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at approximately 2:23 p.m. in the area of West Gude Dr. and Watkins Pond Blvd. in Rockville.

During the initial investigation, it was determined that 28-year-old Romario Coke, also from Silver Spring, was driving eastbound on West Gude Dr. at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his 2018 Infiniti Q50 and crashed into a tree in the center median. Coke was pronounced dead at the scene.

Further investigation by the Collision Reconstruction Unit revealed that Coke was racing with a blue Ram 1500 TRX pickup driven by Givens at the time of the collision.

Givens was subsequently released on an unsecured personal bond pending further legal proceedings.
