Sleeping Subway Passenger Assaulted and Robbed on New York City Subway Train

NEW YORK CITY, NY – A man was assaulted and robbed while sleeping on the southbound D train, prompting a search for the assailant by the New York City Police Department.

The incident occurred early on Friday, December 15, around 2:15 AM at the 36th Avenue station. A 38-year-old male victim, asleep on the train, was awakened when an unknown male was discovered rummaging through his pockets. Upon waking, the victim was punched in the face by the assailant, who then fled the train and station on foot.

The victim sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported by emergency medical services to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn.

The suspect is described as a male, around 35 years old, 5’9″ tall, weighing approximately 170 pounds, with a light complexion and short dark hair. He was last seen wearing a dark-colored short-sleeve polo shirt, dark pants, and dark sneakers with white soles.
