Sneaker thief chased down by victim, beaten in the street

BOSTON, Mass. — A man was arrested Tuesday afternoon after allegedly breaking into a residence and stealing approximately $1,000 worth of sneakers, according to Boston Police.

At around 3:00 p.m., officers from District A-1 responded to a report of a fight in progress near 59 Fleet Street in the city’s North End. Upon arrival, they found two men physically fighting in the street.

After separating the individuals, officers learned that one of the men, identified as 42-year-old Marquez Pierce of Boston, had reportedly entered a residence and stolen several pairs of sneakers. The victim said he pursued the suspect and found him hiding between two vehicles near North and Fleet streets.

The stolen sneakers were recovered at the scene and returned to their owner. No injuries were reported.

Pierce was taken into custody without further incident. He faces charges of Breaking and Entering into a Building in the Daytime for a Felony.

He is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court.
