Evesham, NJ – A fire in Burlington County is being put under control tonight.
As of the latest update at 6:00 PM, the Evesham Fire and the New Jersey Forest Fire Service have reported that the fire has spread across 700 acres but is currently contained at 65%. Firefighters have made significant progress in controlling the blaze, although it continues to burn deep within the center of the forested area. The fire may intermittently flare up until a substantial amount of rainfall occurs. Fire crews will remain at the scene throughout the night to monitor the situation.
For public safety reasons, the entire Black Run Preserve, including both the western fire area and eastern sections, will remain closed until at least Tuesday morning. This closure is necessary to ensure the health and safety of the public.
Residents of the Kings Grant community, homes along Hopewell Road, southern Medford Township, the Sanctuary, and Sturbridge Lakes may experience smoke and odor due to prevailing wind conditions in the area.
Emergency services are requesting that individuals only dial 911 if they witness fire outside or in the woods.
Command staff will reconvene at 9:00 AM on Sunday to evaluate the situation and determine the course of action for the next operational period.
